NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — An 11-year-old girl was taken into custody for allegedly stabbing a 12-year-old boy at a Bronx school on Monday, police said.

According to the NYPD, the incident occurred at approximately 11:07 a.m. inside I.S. 218 on Gerard Avenue in Concourse.

The boy suffered a stab wound to his left arm and was transported to an area hospital for medical treatment. The circumstances leading to the attack remain unclear.

The school serves approximately 800 students but is reportedly staffed by only one school safety agent.

"This act of violence is unacceptable and deeply concerning. Immediately following this incident EMS and NYPD quickly arrived on site to ensure the safety and well-being of impacted students," the Department of Education said in a statement. "We will be working closely with the school community to ensure all necessary supports are provided."

Sources told 1010 WINS the school will be providing counseling and mental health support to the school community while working closely with the involved students, staff, and families to address the incident decisively.
