NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A 16-year-old Queens girl who was shot in the head during a teenage brawl earlier this month has died, police said Tuesday.

Claudia Quaatey died a day after she was shot while sitting in an SUV in front of the Jackie Robinson School in St. Albans around 8:30 p.m. on May 10, cops said.

According to the Daily News, roughly 40 kids had gathered at the Locust Manor Playground when the quarrel broke out, shots were fired and the teen was struck.

Claudia died after she "suffered a severe brain injury and was placed on life support," her aunt, Benita Bortey, said in a GoFundMe page, which aims to cover the teen's funeral, medical and other costs.

"Claudia fought for her life with her loved ones by her side, hoping and praying for a miracle," Bortey said in the fundraiser, "Claudia unfortunately succumbed to her injury."

Her father told the Daily News that Quaatey was not the fighting type.

"My daughter, she doesn't fight like that, so I guess it happened to be a one-time thing," said Albert Quaatey, 65.

Bortey told the paper that Claudia wanted to become a nurse.

"She wanted to help people, she wanted to heal people," Bortey said. "She was a giving soul, she was very matter-of-fact. She was raised well, she comes from a very cultured background."

Claudia's death comes after another teen, a 13-year-old boy, died Sunday after being shot in the head at a Staten Island playground.

"This violence is unfortunate," Bortey said. "It seeps into every area of life."

No arrests have been made in the girl's killing as of Tuesday afternoon.
