NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A 17-year-old girl was stabbed during a fight near a school in Brooklyn on Friday, the NYPD said.
The girl was stabbed in the back not far from Metropolitan Diploma Plus High School, on Rockaway Avenue near Hegeman Avenue in Brownsville, around 2 p.m., police said.
Emergency responders transported her to Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center, where she was listed in stable condition, the NYPD said.
No one had been arrested in connection with the stabbing as of Friday evening, police said.
In a statement provided to the New York Post, New York City Department of Education spokesperson Nathaniel Styer said the agency was "working closely with NYPD as they investigate."
"The safety of students and staff is our top priority, and we are closely monitoring the status of a student who was attacked off school grounds by an unknown assailant in a non-school related incident," Styer added.
