NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A 2-year-old girl was killed in Queens on Sunday night after she wandered in front of an SUV being driven by her mother's boyfriend in what's being called a tragic accident, police said.
The accident happened as the girl's 23-year-old mother was removing items from the back of a Nissan Rogue outside a home on 216th Street, near 38th Avenue, in Bayside just after 10 p.m.
The girl wandered in front of the Nissan as her mom's 23-year-old boyfriend was moving the vehicle, police said.
The SUV struck the girl as the boyfriend began to drive off, according to police.
The mom and boyfriend rushed the girl to Flushing Hospital Medical Center with severe trauma to her head, police said.
The girl was pronounced dead at the hospital. She was later identified as Leilani Rosales.
No criminality is suspected, according to police, who said no arrests have been made amid an ongoing investigation.
