NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A five-year-old girl was cut across her face by a teenager in the Bronx on Friday in what appears to be an accidental slashing, the NYPD said.

The girl was at the corner of Third Avenue and East Tremont Avenue with her mother – close to Walter Gladwin Park and elementary school P723x @ Astor – at 3:10 p.m. when they passed by a group of teenagers messing around.

One of the teens dropped a knife in the play, and accidentally slashed the girl's face while standing up from retrieving it, officials said.

According to police, the nature of the incident did not seem intentional.

The child was transported to St. Barnabas Hospital where she is in stable condition.

The group of teens fled going east on East Tremont Avenue and no arrests were made in relation to this incident.
