NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Two suspects were arrested after a 7-year-old girl was shot Tuesday in front of a Starbucks in Harlem, according to police.
The shooting happened near West 145th Street and Bradhurst Avenue in Hamilton Heights at around 2:50 p.m., cops said.
The 7-year-old girl was shot in the stomach while riding her pink scooter with her father by her side when two men came from behind a parked car and started shooting, missing their intended target, officials said.
One firearm was recovered, cops said.
The victim was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem, where she was listed in stable condition.
"Clearly our hearts go out to the family," Mayor Eric Adams said during a new conference on Tuesday. "Never a good thing when a child is the victim."
Details about the shooting were not immediately clear,
Two people of interest were taken into custody in connection with what police said was gang-related violence.
Daniel Idowu, 19, and a 17-year-old boy were both charged with attempted murder, with Idowu also facing a weapon possession charge, police said.
An investigation is ongoing.
"This is absolutely heartbreaking," State Sen. Zellnor Myrie wrote on X. "Our kids should be able to play outside without fearing for their safety — in every neighborhood in our city."
