NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Two off-duty firefighters and a lifeguard rescued a woman from her burning car after she crashed into a tree on Long Island Sunday night, police said.

The 35-year-old Bohemia woman was driving a Pontiac G6 east on Express Drive South, near Enter Lane, in Islandia around 6:45 p.m. when she lost control of the vehicle and hit a tree, Suffolk County police said.

The car burst into flames after it crashed, trapping the woman inside, the department said.

Two off-duty members of the Central Islip Fire Department — Eric Leonard and Kenneth Degan — and lifeguard Robyn Frank, however, happened to be passing by and jumped into action, police said.

After Leonard pulled the woman from the car, Degan put out the fire and Frank provided her with medical aid, according to police.

The woman was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital in serious condition after backup arrived at the scene, police said.
