NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The ceo of Gristedes and D'Agostino supermarkets says New Yorkers have begun stockpiling groceries and supplies as a possible second coronavirus wave looms.
John Catsimatidis, owner and CEO of Gristedes and D’Agostino, told WCBS-TV that business has been up 10 percent in the last few days.
"People are worried a lot about that Thanksgiving dinner, and they’re buying early and buying in quantities," Catsimatidis said.
But Catsimatidis said his stores haven't even fully recovered from the first round of stockpiling, which kicked off when the pandemic began last spring.
"There's always been shortages in Bounty and in Charmin, and it has not come back to normal,” he explained.
Catsimatidis said stores will begin limiting items if they notice certain items running low, so he's encouraging shoppers to buy only what they need.
The supply chain is good," he said. "We are well-equipped. If nobody panics, we’re going to be OK."
