VIDEO: Group beat, rob man, 37, on 2 train in Times Square after dispute over masks

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Police are searching to identify a group in connection to a violent robbery inside a train in Times Square on Tuesday that stemmed from a dispute about them not wearing masks.

At approximately 2:45 p.m., a 37-year-old man was onboard the southbound 2 train at the 7th Avenue and West 42nd Street subway station, when he got into a verbal altercation with a group of approximately six maskless men.

The men then punched and struck the victim in the face and head with an unknown object and forcibly removed his red and black backpack before exiting the train, officials said.

The victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital to be treated for his injuries.

Authorities describe five of the suspects as dark-skinned men and one light-skinned man, approximately in their 20's.

Anyone with information is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
