NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A group of people armed with a gun and a machete punched a security guard before stealing an SUV outside the China Mission on Manhattan's East Side, police said.

The NYPD released surveillance video of the four suspects on Wednesday.

Police said the security guard had confronted the group as they tampered with a vehicle in front of the China Mission on E. 35th Street, near First Avenue, in Murray Hill around 3:40 a.m. last Wednesday.

When confronted, the suspects took out a gun and a machete and punched the security guard in the head, police said.

The group then stole the guard's property along with a red 2013 Toyota RAV4 that was in front of the building, according to police.

They drove off in the RAV4, which was last seen heading eastbound through the Queens–Midtown Tunnel, police said. The SUV has New York plates with the number HVX3865.

The security guard refused medical attention at the scene, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
