NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Police are looking to identify a group wanted after a Citi Bike was hurled onto a subway track causing it to explode into a fireball when it collided with an approaching R train Sunday night in Queens.

At about 9:11 p.m. on September 19, a group of four males and one female gathered in the vicinity of Steinway Street and Broadway before entering the Steinway Street Station on the R Line where one suspect threw a Citi Bike down the stairs from the street level to the mezzanine, officials said.

The Citi Bike was then thrown onto the subway tracks and at 9:25, it made contact with a southbound R Train, authorities said.

According to police, the collision caused significant sparking, damage to the train and the train's emergency brake to engage, creating a substantial risk of injury or death to individuals on the train and the platform.

The suspects fled the station on foot and no injuries were reported in connection with this incident, the NYPD said.

Anyone with information in regard to this incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
