HOBOKEN, N.J. (1010 WINS) – Hoboken has been hit with a ransomware attack that is impacting city operations and services, officials said Wednesday.

The city posted a statement around 10 a.m. saying it “was the victim of a ransomware attack in the early hours of Wednesday.”

According to the Internet Crime Complaint Center, ransomware is “a type of malicious software, or malware, that prevents you from accessing your computer files, systems, or networks and demands you pay a ransom for their return.”

Officials said City Hall will be closed Wednesday and that “all online City services are suspended.”

Municipal Court has also been canceled Wednesday, and street sweeping is suspended for the day too, according to the city.

All other parking regulations will remain in effect. Waste collection will also continue, and recreation programs will go on as schedule, officials said.

“The Hoboken Police Department is working with City administration and the IT department to investigate the attack and how to best restore services safely,” the city said.

More information will be put out when it’s available, officials said.
