NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — The red wave hit New York last week. Republicans flipped four House seats, the most of any state.

Some Democrats are now pointing the finger at Gov. Kathy Hochul, but she's pushing back.

The blame game started quickly. Outgoing Democratic Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney told the New York Times that Hochul didn't pivot quickly enough to talk about crime.

After losing his reelection effort, Democratic State Sen. Elijah Reichlin-Melnick tweeted that the Hochul campaign was not present in Rockland County.

"I was everywhere," the governor said Wednesday, insisting that down-ballot losses should not be blamed on her.

"The bottom line is that Democrats are going to be governing the Senate, the Assembly and the governor's seat," Hochul said.

Still, themes from the campaign are translating to top priorities heading into the new year.

"Certainly, public safety is still number one," Hochul said. "All of us are concerned about protecting the safety of our citizens ... I have not deviated from that from the very beginning."

She said she looks forward to speaking with lawmakers on the issue.

Hochul is now pivoting to her State of the State address, which she said will focus on affordability.
