NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A woman was splashed in the face and critically burned with a caustic liquid in the subway as she was heading to work at a hospital in Brooklyn early Friday morning, police said as they released images of a suspect in the unprovoked attack.
The 21-year-old hospital worker had just gotten off of a 2 line train at the Winthrop Street station in Prospect Lefferts Gardens around 1:10 a.m. when a woman in her 20s or 30s came up and started an argument with her.
The woman followed the victim up the stairs, where she splashed an unknown chemical on her face.
Cell phone video from police appears to show a container of some sort in the suspect's hand right before the attack.
The victim was transported in critical but stable condition to NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County—where she works and was headed—before she was transferred to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi in the Bronx.
The victim suffered burns to the left side of her face, police said.
The attacker fled the station and was still being sought Friday.
Police haven’t yet said what they believe the noxious substance was.
