NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A bishop from Illinois is expected to replace Cardinal Timothy Dolan as archbishop of New York, sources told 1010 WINS on Wednesday.

The sources said they're hearing that Pope Leo will appoint Bishop Ronald Hicks, 58, who leads the Diocese of Joliet, to replace Dolan.

Dolan submitted his resignation in February, when he turned 75, the age when archbishops and bishops must submit their resignation.

Hicks has led the Diocese of Joliet, outside of Chicago, since 2020. If he assumes the role of Archbishop of New York, he'd lead the second largest archdiocese in the U.S., the seat of which is St. Patrick's Cathedral.

Dolan has overseen the Archdiocese of New York since 2009. He was named a cardinal by Pope Benedict XVI in 2012.
