IN DEPTH PODCAST: A year after death of George Floyd, a look at BLM movement in NYC

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – This week, the city and the nation remembered and reflected on the death of George Floyd a year after he was killed. Amid the pandemic, video of his death sparked sadness, anger and highlighted a movement of change, Black Lives Matter.

On this episode, we want to break down why the BLM movement started, why it's been important in major cities, and how the murder of Floyd has impacted the movement.

Joining us this week is Chivona Newsome, a co-founder of BLM Greater New York, to discuss how the group is trying to have their voice heard in the city. We'll also speak to Det. Felicia Richards, the president of the NYPD Guardians Association, a group established to promote equality among Black police officers.

Please welcome Femi Redwood, who fills in for Al Jones on the podcast.
