NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Something's fishy.
At a press conference on Monday, Mayor Eric Adams refused to give a straight answer about whether or not he eats fish or animal products despite touting his “plant-based diet.”

Multiple reports have claimed Adams was spotted eating fish at various restaurants but when asked about his dietary habits, Adams neither confirmed nor denied his adherence to a vegan diet, which would mean he doesn't consume fish or any other animal product.
“Some people wanna call me vegan,” Adams said during the press conference. “Vegans eat Oreos and they drink Coca-Cola, I don’t. I eat a plant-based centered life. And those who are the food police for me, they can food police all the time.”
The mayor made the comments while announcing the expansion of a lifestyle medicine program as part of NYC Health + Hospitals which aids people living with chronic illnesses by giving them better access to healthy lifestyle changes, including plant-based diet options.
“Today, New York City is again leading the way with the most comprehensive expansion of lifestyle medicine programming in the nation,” Adams said. “This is personal to me—a plant-based lifestyle helped save my life, and I’m thrilled that New Yorkers in every zip code will have access to the critical programming. Together, we will stop feeding the health care crisis and ensure all New Yorkers can access the healthy lifestyle they deserve.”
After the announcement, Adams went on to give a cooking demonstration to the media.

The controversy comes after Adams faced criticism for having dinner with former Gov. Andrew Cuomo at a New York City restaurant. Though the mayor allegedly had a plant-based meal that night, Politico reported Adams frequents the restaurant he shared a meal with Cuomo at and when he does, he allegedly often dines on fish.
