NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Hollywood may be synonymous with the film industry today, but what most people don't know is that the film and TV industry was actually born on the east coast.
After being forced to move westward in the early 1900s due to rising production costs and unsatisfactory weather, over the last few decades there’s been a renewed interest in expanding the industry on this side of the country. This has resulted in a surge of productions throughout the tri-state area.
The primary reason for that renewed interest? Tax credits.

On this episode of 1010 WINS In Depth, listen as host Dempsey Pillot breaks down both the history of cinema in the tri-state area and New York State’s current film tax credit program all in an effort to understand the industry’s future.
