MONTCLAIR, N.J. (1010 WINS) – Despite there being countless Pride celebrations in the Tri-state area for the past few decades, one township in New Jersey is just now joining in on the fun.

The township of Montclair will be having its inaugural Pride celebration this Saturday, June 11th.

While the all-day event will include appearances from the cast of Broadway’s “Jagged Little Pill,” one of the original members of The Village People, several celebrity New Jersey natives are also on the bill.

For instance, Broadway legend Laura Benanti will perform and comedienne Judy Gold will be the entire event’s emcee. Benanti was born in New York City before moving to Morris County, New Jersey as a child. Gold, on the other hand, was born and raised in Clark.

In a recent interview for Audacy’s "It’s OK To Say Gay" podcast, Gold spoke about being asked to host the event and explained why it’s more than just a homecoming.

She said, “Montclair Pride is a place where I was in the closet for my entire life, and to be able to be in this town with all these great performers [and] families. I’m thrilled.”

“It's such an honor,” she added, acknowledging how great it’s going to be to celebrate in her home state as her true self.

The festival will take place between 12 p.m. and 6 p.m. Additional details can be found on the event’s website and Facebook page.
