NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — A Long Island couple was indicted on Thursday on a variety of charges related to the apparent drug overdose and death of their 14-month-old son earlier this month, the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office said.
Wilkens Adonis, 38, was charged in a 14-count indictment, and Daryllee Leibrock, 38, was charged in a 16-count indictment in connection with the death of 14-month-old Joseph Adonis.
The defendants allegedly possessed guns and illegal drugs in the Holbrook apartment they shared with their 14-month-old and Wilkens' 11-year-old child, prosecutors said.

Charges include criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal possession of a weapon and endangering the welfare of a child. Leibrock is also charged with violating orders of protection involving the two children.
On the morning of Jan. 3, Suffolk County police responded to a 911 call reporting an unresponsive child. Upon arrival, officers found Wilkens, Leibrock and their unresponsive toddler in the couple’s bedroom.

Emergency personnel took Joseph to Stony Brook University Hospital where he was pronounced dead, officials said.
According to the investigation, detectives from the county Homicide Squad discovered drugs in the bedroom where Joseph was found.
Narcotics Section detectives joined the investigation and helped execute a search warrant on the apartment, where officials found over one-eighth ounce a mixture of heroin and fentanyl, over one-eighth ounce of cocaine, alprazolam (a psychotropic medication), drug packaging materials, drug scales, a stun gun, a loaded shotgun and a rifle.
Everything discovered was allegedly unsecured and easily accessible to the children.
At the time of the child’s death, Leibrock was subject to Suffolk County Family Court orders of protection that prohibited her from being near either child, and both defendants had open warrants for failure to appear in court on misdemeanor drug charges.
A preliminary toxicology report of Joseph Adonis showed multiple substances in his blood, including cocaine, fentanyl, morphine, 4-anpp (a fentanyl precursor), and metabolites of cocaine and fentanyl.
“The death of a toddler from a suspected overdose of poisonous drugs is an unfortunate but not unexpected next step in the opioid overdose crisis, and should be a wakeup call to our Albany legislators that decisive action must happen now. Children are dying,” said Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney. “I urge every New Yorker to contact your legislators and demand that they address this crisis.”
The defendants are being held during the pendency of the case. Both defendants have pleaded not guilty and are due back in court on Feb. 29.
