NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — It might not have been love at first sight for Saba Khalid, but after nearly seven months of dating, she's certain Abshaaar Taj was the one.
"I think it's just over time. It was sort of like just learning about who he was and things like that. I think it made it a lot more like, this is not going to be just another [guy]," she told 1010 WINS' Bridgette Quinn on Monday.
While Taj said he felt an instant connection, Khalid admits she tried to call off their first date, even planning a lunch outing in case their Hinge date went wrong.
"A couple of moments before that, I was telling my friend I don't even want to go on this date, and I was trying to find a way to cancel, but I felt bad, so I was like, you know what, at least it's a lunch date during work," Khalid said.

"We actually had to reschedule a number of times," Taj added. "I thought she was coming up with excuses, but I think she was being honest. Later, I learned, but we ended up doing it in the middle of the workday, which I've never done before, so it was my first work lunch, and someone told me it was actually an added protection for her."

Since that first date, the Queens natives, who had both left New York City for work but returned shortly before meeting, have gone on several dates to "classic" spots, turning the city into their "playground."
Khalid and Taj compared New York City to their "set," and they are the "main characters," from seeing a play at Shakespeare in the Park to hanging out in --Gantry Plaza State Park in Long Island City and more.
Though Taj said that Valentine's Day is not as important to the couple as "other milestones," Khalid felt it was only fitting to propose to her "fiance" live on 1010 WINS in light of the pandemic.
"I'm blessed to have your patience with me and your willingness to look past the way I spew my opinions with immense conviction, and I'm honored to ask you in front of New York City. Will you marry me?" she said.
"Of course, without a doubt," Taj responded.
The bride- and groom-to-be are now planning a June wedding at Flushing Meadows' Terrace on the Park."
Khalid went on to say that the pandemic had taught them a valuable lesson.
"It is truly a whirlwind ... it's like when, you know, it's kind of like, why wait? ... we're just ready to get our lives started together," she added. "So, and I think the pandemic has already emphasized that you don't have, I always have time to cherish."
