NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Officials arrested a man accused of smashing the rear windshield of an NYPD patrol car in Manhattan as officers responded to a call of a man with a knife over the weekend, according to a police union.
"This is the situation on our streets: while two @NYPD34Pct cops were responding to a report of a man with a knife last night, a somebody did this to their car," the PBA posted to Twitter on Sunday.
"Thanks to bystanders who witnessed the vandalism and pointed cops towards the perp, he was arrested a short time later."
A police spokeswoman confirmed that 30-year-old Alexis Bueno was arrested and charged with criminal mischief for the vandalism.
Officials were called to 213 Nagle Avenue in Inwood around 4 p.m. on Saturday where a witness told police that he saw a man pummel the car's back window, police sources told the New York Post.
