According to authorities, officers responded to a 911 call at around 11:30 p.m. of a possible "emotionally disturbed individual" with a metal pipe in his hand at Greene Street and Broome Street.

Upon arrival, officers observed Zachary Westcott, who appeared "violent" and allegedly had a metal object in his hand. The officers gave the male verbal commands to drop the object, but he refused to do so.

Police said the cops then tried to arrest him and used physical force to remove the pipe.

While attempting to place the male in custody, Westcott allegedly bit one officer on the left knee and a second officer on the right arm.

Officials said the second officer suffered a head injury after hitting his head on the ground while attempting to arrest him.

Eventually, Westcott was taken into custody and removed to Mt. Sinai Beth Israel for evaluation.

The two officers were removed to NYC Health and Hospitals/Bellevue in stable condition. The metal object was recovered on the scene.

Police said Wednesday that Westcott has since been charged with assault, resisting arrest and obstruction of governmental administration.
