NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A 58-year-old Brooklyn man was arraigned on Friday for knocking out and raping a 49-year-old woman in Queens last month.
Tony Kempsey allegedly invited the woman onto his motorized scooter around 5 a.m. on April 30.
He drove her to the corner of 48 Avenue and 72 Street in Elmhurst, where he punched her in the face, causing her to fall from the scooter and lose consciousness, authorities said. He allegedly raped her, and fled when she started to regain consciousness.
Emergency responders brough the victim to NYC Health + Hospital/ Elmhurst.
"This kind of horrific attack is a nightmare," said Queens DA Melinda Katz. "The defendant evaded arrest for weeks and now will be held accountable."
Prosecutors charged Kempsey with rape, assault and sexual abuse. He faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted.
