NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — A 60-year-old man was arrested Tuesday after he stole an unattended FedEx truck in Manhattan full of packages, police said.

The thief hopped into the truck around 10:22 a.m. as it sat unlocked with its keys in the ignition at the corner of 28th Street and First Avenue, according to police.
He then took off driving 75 blocks uptown before he crashed into a parked car on First Avenue and 103rd Street, police said.
The man then attempted to flee the truck with packages inside before he was stopped and arrested by officers at the scene, according to police.
The man was awaiting processing Monday afternoon, police said.
No injuries were reported in the incident, according to cops.
Deputy Inspector Aneudy Castillo, the commanding officer of the NYPD’s 23rd Precinct where the man was placed in custody, tweeted about the “wild ride” Tuesday.
“The wild ride of one very ambitious package pirate ended in #EastHarlem when POs Saidmurodov & Kim spotted the thief hauling away loot after crashing on 1st Ave,” Castillo’s account wrote. “On the lam for 70 blocks, he got no further as these officers swooped in to recover the @FedEx truck and its cargo.”
