NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A 72-year-old man died nearly a week after a hit-and-run driver struck him as he was crossing a street in Brooklyn, the NYPD said Wednesday.
Kamel Mahmoud, of Bay Ridge, was crossing Bay Ridge Parkway from south to north in the crosswalk around 8 p.m. on Feb. 15 when a driver turning left onto the parkway from 6th Avenue hit him, police said.
Mahmoud was taken to a nearby hospital with head trauma, the NYPD said. He was pronounced dead on Feb. 20, police said.
The driver fled the scene on Bay Ridge Parkway after hitting Mahmoud and hadn't been arrested as of Wednesday, the NYPD said.
The driver had a green light while turning, but Mahmoud had the pedestrian signal as he was crossing the street, police said. An investigation is ongoing.
