NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A man accused of setting a dog on fire on a Queens street last week and leaving the animal's burning body between parked cars was arrested Monday night and hit with multiple charges, police announced.
Isaiah Gurley, 29, is charged with aggravated animal cruelty, torturing an animal, arson and two counts of reckless endangerment for the July 24 attack on the dog.
At about 4:45 a.m. that morning, Gurley is accused of “dragging a motionless dog” down the street at 128th Street and 116th Avenue in South Ozone Park.
He then allegedly poured accelerant on the pooch and ignited it before fleeing the scene on foot. The animal did not survive.
Police released surveillance images of the arsonist over the weekend to aid the investigation, which included the ASPCA and the NYPD Animal Cruelty Squad.
Gurley’s address was listed as a housing services shelter in Springfield Gardens, just over two miles away from the scene of the crime.
