NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A 32-year-old man has been charged in the death of his 15-year-old cousin, who he allegedly beat with a belt dozens of times and then left in a tub at a Manhattan apartment.
Mitcaux Brooker was charged with assault and endangering the welfare of a child after the June 28 attack, according to a complaint filed in Manhattan that was obtained by the New York Post.
Prosecutors allege Brooker beat his teen cousin, who was in New York visiting family, with a belt at least 50 times over the course of an hour.
Brooker then left the boy in a tub with running water at an apartment on W. 94th Street on the Upper West Side before returning a couple of hours later to find him unconscious, the complaint alleges.
The FDNY found the teen unconscious and lying on a bed with dry clothes, according to the complaint. He reportedly died at Mount Sinai Hospital that night.
Brooker is being held at a jail following his indictment on July 2. He's set to be arraigned in Manhattan Supreme Court in August, according to the report.
