Pedro Hernandez, 22, allegedly fired into a car after he lost the shell game around 4:50 p.m. on Aug. 28 on East 50th Street near Madison Avenue.
The scammers reportedly fled in their car, and Hernandez gave chase in his own vehicle.
The group eventually fled on foot at the Palace Hotel where Hernandez held them at gunpoint and demanded they give back his property, according to police.
Prosecutors charged Hernandez with attempted murder, attempted assault, criminal possession of a weapon and reckless endangerment, authorities announced Monday.
