NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A man was arrested in connection with a fatal fire at a Brooklyn building on Tuesday, officials said.
One person is dead and at least seven others were injured when a fire broke out in a Brooklyn building early Tuesday morning, the FDNY said.
Police arrested 30-year-old Sedgrick Jacob, who is believed to have intentionally started the fire in his own building
He was questioned after he was spotted near the fire and is charged with eight counts of assault and one count of reckless endangerment.
Jacob could possibly face additional charges, detectives said.
Fire officials were called to the blaze at the two-story residential building at 255 East 95th Street in East Flatbush just before 5 a.m., officials said.
Over 100 firefighters responded to the two-alarm fire at the mixed-use building.
FDNY officials said two people were found by firefighters after they jumped from the second floor to escape the fire.
One resident died and another was seriously injured, authorities said.
Five others, including a firefighter, were treated for minor injuries.
They were transported to Brookdale University Hospital and Kings County Hospital and are expected to recover.
There were approximately 20 residents were displaced in the fire that was placed under control around 5:45 a.m., the FDNY said.
The FDNY said the flames spread because a door to the apartment was left open.
An investigation remains ongoing.
