Police responded to a 911 call at around 6:53 p.m. of a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian struck just outside the Mt. Zion Cemetery on Maurice Avenue near 54 Avenue.

Upon arrival, officers observed an unidentified man in his 30s lying on the roadway with trauma all over his body, authorities said. He was rushed to NYC Health & Hospitals/Elmhurst, where he was pronounced dead.

An investigation by the NYPD Highway District's Collision Investigation Squad determined that the 42-year-old driver got back into the 2008 Ford F-350 as it was parked on the west side of the road, turned the vehicle on, and rolled over the victim with the right rear tires.

The 42-year-old man did not realize the man was asleep when he ran him over and stopped the car after the collision, police told the Daily News.

He remained at the scene and has not been arrested, according to police.

An investigation remains ongoing.
