NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- An attacker threw scalding-hot coffee into the face of a man in the ATM area of a Chase bank in Midtown Manhattan on Thursday, burning the victim in an apparently unprovoked attack.
The 42-year-old man was inside an ATM vestibule of the Chase bank at W. 40th Street and Eighth Avenue around 3:40 a.m. when another man walked in with a cup of hot coffee.
The attacker quickly tossed the coffee in the victim’s face and then fled the bank, police said.
NYPD officers responding to a 911 call found the victim at the bank with burns to the right side of his face, neck and shoulder.
He was transported to Weill Cornell Medical Center in stable condition.
Nothing was stolen during the attack, according to police.
Investigators believe the man who attacked him is between 25 and 35 years old.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
