NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A subway rider was bashed over the head with a baseball bat after refusing to give a man $40 at the Queensboro Plaza station in Long Island City on Sunday night, police said.

The 21-year-old victim, whose gender is unclear, was waiting on the platform for a Manhattan-bound N train around 11:50 p.m. when a man asked for $40, according to police.

When the victim refused to hand over any cash, the man pulled a baseball bat from his backpack and struck them in the back of the head with it, police said.

The victim suffered a head injury and was taken to New York-Presbyterian Queens. They were conscious and alert and were hospitalized in stable condition, according to cops.

The suspect fled on a Manhattan-bound N train, police said. He’s believed to be about 18 years old and was wearing an orange hoodie and gray backpack.
