NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A man bit an NYPD officer as police tried to get him off a bus at the Staten Island Ferry terminal in Manhattan this weekend, according to a report.
Officers responded to the MTA bus at the South Street terminal around 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, sources told the New York Post.
When the man snubbed requests to leave the bus, police went aboard and the man bit one of them in the right thigh during a scuffle, according to the report.
A source told the Post that the officer was "trying to restrain somebody having a mental breakdown problem of some type" when he was bit.
The officer was taken to an area hospital and is expected to be okay, while the alleged biter, 30-year-old Khristian Haith, was taken to a hospital for a psychiatric evaluation, according to the report.
Haith was reportedly arrested on charges of assault, resisting arrest and obstructing governmental administration.
