NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – Police arrested a man in South America on Thursday who was the alleged driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run of a pedestrian on Christmas Day in 2019 in Queens.

Nearly five years later, U.S. Marshals identified the driver as 26-year-old Dharamjit Ravindra of Queens, who allegedly fled to Guyana after hitting 67-year-old Ainsley Dalrymple with a borrowed truck.

Ravindra was charged with second-degree manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, reckless driving, and several other traffic-related offenses.

The hit-and-run occurred around 9:30 p.m. when police responded to a 911 call about a pedestrian struck near 114th Street and Rockaway Boulevard in South Ozone Park. Officers found the victim unconscious with severe head and body trauma between two parked cars. He was taken to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Surveillance footage captured the suspect’s vehicle, a silver 2007-2011 Toyota Tundra, shortly after the incident near Centerville Street and Hawtree Street. The truck had significant damage to its front right fender, and the front right headlight was out.

An NYPD Collision Investigation Squad’s preliminary investigation revealed that the pedestrian was crossing Rockaway Boulevard when he was hit by the westbound Toyota truck. The driver fled the scene.
