NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A man was charged on Wednesday for allegedly shoving an 85-year-old man onto the subway tracks in Midtown, prosecutors said.
Brittan Jones, 30, on Nov. 15, was arguing with the victim who previously was sleeping on the bench on the Rockefeller Center southbound platform, according to court documents.
The argument escalated when Jones, of York, Pennsylvania pushed the victim onto the subway tracks before running away from the scene.
The FDNY, MTA and NYPD responded after receiving a 911 call and removed the victim from the subway track.
He was then taken to Mount Sinai West for injuries including a fracture to his hip.
“New Yorkers deserve to ride public transportation without fearing for their safety, and we will hold accountable those who endanger others in our subway stations,” Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg, Jr. said. “I wish the victim a speedy recovery, and thank the members of the NYPD, MTA, and FDNY who jumped into action to help him.”
Jones is charged with attempted assault and assault in the second degree.
