NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The NYPD Highway District's Collision Investigation Squad is investigating the death of a man who was run over by a car after falling from the scooter he was driving in Queens on Monday, authorities said.
Just after 11 p.m., police responded to a 911 call of a motor vehicle collision involving an electric scooter on Hamilton Place in the vicinity of Borden Avenue in Maspeth.
Upon arrival, officers observed 47-year-old Hamdan Almatare, who had been operating an electric scooter operator, lying on the roadway, with trauma to the body.
EMS responded to the location and transported the aided male to NYC Health & Hospitals/Elmhurst, where he was pronounced dead.
Further investigation determined the male was operating the electric scooter traveling northbound on Hamilton Place, in the vicinity of Borden Avenue, when for unknown reasons he lost control and fell from the scooter and onto the roadway.
A passing driver then ran over Almatare as he lay on the roadway, officials said.
The vehicle did not stop. It is unclear if the driver knew they hit someone.
The investigation is ongoing.
