NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — A 36-year-old man was charged with murder on Sunday, hours after he allegedly stabbed another man to death who was living in the same Bronx homeless shelter as him.
Officers responded to 237 Landing Road at about 3:16 p.m. after receiving reports of a man stabbed inside, and found Eric Worrell, 25, with a stab wound to the neck. Police said that the stabbing occurred after a verbal altercation.
Medics rushed Worrell to Saint Barnabas Hospital where he was pronounced dead, authorities said.
Eight hours after the incident, police arrested fellow shelter resident Christopher Hunt and charged him with second-degree murder.
According to the Bowery Residents’ Committee, 237 Landing Road is a mixed-use building that provides 200 homeless shelter beds and 135 permanent affordable housing units for low-income people.
The Bowery Residents’ Committee, which manages low-income housing and homeless services, has operated the building since 2018 as a pilot for its Innovative Homestretch Housing model.
The stabbing occurred less than 24 hours after a migrant shelter resident was stabbed to death by a fellow migrant outside the East Harlem shelter where they lived. The alleged perpetrator was quickly apprehended and is now facing a murder charge.
