Ramon Castro approached a 34-year-old man outside a taco stand at the intersection of 77th Street and Roosevelt Avenue in Flushing on July 6, 2021, where he shouted “I hate Latinos and f***** people” before slashing the man’s face.
The victim required stitches after the attack, and Ramon was charged with assault as a hate crime.
He pleaded guilty to the charges earlier this month.
“Hate-motivated attacks will never be tolerated in Queens County, where we pride ourselves on our rich cultural diversity,” said Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz. “In pleading guilty earlier this month, the defendant accepted responsibility for violently assaulting a man based on his appearance and he has now been sentenced to prison as punishment for his criminal actions.”
In addition to the eight year prison term, the judge sentenced Castro to five years post-release supervision.
