Man, 59, punched on East Village street hospitalized with fractured skull, broken face bones

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A 59-year-old man was hospitalized in critical condition with a fractured skull and broken face bones after he was punched on a lower Manhattan street this week, police said.

The victim was walking on First Avenue, near 12th Street, in the East Village shortly before 3 p.m. Wednesday when he and another man got into some sort of argument, according to police.


The man punched the victim in his left eye, knocking him down and causing him to strike his head on the ground, police said.

The victim was taken by EMS to Bellevue Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition. Police said he was being treated for a fractured skull, a fractured orbital bone and swelling of the brain.

The attacker fled northbound on First Avenue then westbound on E. 14th Street, according to police, who released surveillance video of a suspect.
