NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A 28-year-old man was indicted by a Manhattan criminal court for allegedly sexually assaulting, beating and robbing three women on the Hudson River Greenway, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg announced Tuesday.

Between March and November, Carl Phanor attacked three women walking or jogging along the path in separate incidents, according to prosecutors.

"Carl Phanor committed three brutal attacks with escalating violence, preying on women who were simply trying to walk or jog along the waterfront," said District Attorney Bragg. "These horrific allegations shocked our city, and I want to assure these survivors and all New Yorkers that we will hold him accountable."

The first attack took place on March 27 around 6 a.m. A 39-year-old woman was jogging along the Hudson River Greenway near Pier 46 in Greenwich Village when Phanor allegedly tackled her, choked her and sexually assaulted her.

Around 5 a.m. on Oct. 6, he allegedly attacked a 48-year-old woman as she walked near East 37th Street and FDR Drive.

The attacker reportedly put her in a chokehold and ripped her jeans before fleeing with her credit card and cell phone.

Just before 6 a.m. on Nov. 3, he allegedly attacked a 43-year-old woman as she jogged on the Greenway near Pier 45.

He threw her to the ground, choked her and raped her before fleeing with her cell phone, credit card and other belongings, police said.

Phanor was arrested later that morning when he attempted to purchase a bus ticket with her credit card.

He was indicted on charges of predatory sexual assault, criminal sex acts, rape, attempted murder and related offenses.
