NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — One person is in custody after a shootout between multiple gunmen and police that occurred overnight across several blocks in Harlem, the NYPD said.

At around 11:30 p.m., officials responded to a call for shots fired near the intersection of West 142nd Street and Chisum Place and found at least two men shooting at each after, according to police.

“Responding cops quickly found bullets flying by them,” Commissioner Dermot Shea tweeted Tuesday.

One of the armed men then pointed his gun at police and fired one round toward the officers, authorities said.

Police fired back an unknown amount of rounds, as one of the armed men fled inside a building nearby, police said.

“One suspect barricaded himself in an apartment & again shot from a window,” Shea's tweet added.

Officers were able to track the 31-year-old suspect on the third-floor of a building and took him into custody, the NYPD said.

Police are still searching for at least one other person thought to be involved in the incident, officials said.

Authorities recovered a firearm at the scene.

There were no police officers hurt, officials added.

Charges against the suspect in custody are pending.

An investigation is ongoing.
