NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – Two drivers mowed down a man in Queens during Sunday night's heavy rain, leaving him to die on a street, police said Monday as they investigated the deadly double hit-and-run.
The unidentified victim, who was in his 20s, was crossing Hempstead Avenue at 223rd Street in Queens Village just after 8 p.m. when the driver of a light-colored sedan headed westbound on Hempstead hit him, knocking him to the pavement.
As he was lying on the roadway, a second person driving a light-colored SUV eastbound on Hempstead ran over him.
Neither driver stopped to help, according to police.
The victim suffered "severe trauma" and was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS, cops said.
Investigators were canvassing the area for surveillance video overnight.
It's unclear at this point if police believe the rainy weather played a role.
No description of the vehicles has been released.
