Man lying on crosswalk fatally struck by minivan in Queens

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A 29-year-old man lying on a crosswalk in Queens was fatally struck by a minivan early Sunday morning, police said.

The man was struck at Menahan Street and Cypress Avenue in Ridgewood shortly after 2:30 a.m.


Police said a Toyota Sienna stopped on Cypress Avenue made a left turn onto Menahan Street when the light turned green, striking the man, who was "lying on his back in the marked crosswalk for unknown reasons."

Officers responding to a 911 call found the man lying face up on the crosswalk unconscious. He was transported to Wyckoff Heights Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The man was later identified as Jose Flores-Sanchez of Brooklyn.

Police told the Daily News that the victim may have been intoxicated at the time.

The 64-year-old driver of the Toyota remained at the scene. No arrests have been reported amid the ongoing investigation.
