NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A man was fatally mauled by his pet pit bull in the Bronx early Friday before the dog, named Max, was shot and killed by NYPD officers, police said.

Officers responded to a 911 call about the dog attack shortly after 3 a.m. in the Longwood section.

When officers arrived at the scene at 1210 Simpson St., there was blood everywhere and the dog had the owner gripped by the throat, police said.

The dog was shot multiple times by cops and pronounced dead at the scene.

EMS rushed the owner to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He has not yet been identified.
