NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A man pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicular homicide Thursday, a year after he killed a woman and her 10-year-old daughter in Queens while driving drunk and going nearly 60 mph over the speed limit, prosecutors said.

Tyrone Absolam, 42, made the plea in Queens Supreme Court ahead of his sentencing. He faces five to 15 years in prison, according to the Queens District Attorney's Office.

Absolam was speeding down Rockaway Boulevard in a gray Nissan Altima on July 24, 2021, when he crashed into a Chevy Cruze making a left turn at Guy R. Brewer Boulevard in Springfield Gardens.

Diana Granobles, 31, was driving the Chevy with her daughter in tow.

The posted speed limit in the area is 35 mph, but Absolam was traveling at 94 mph two seconds before the crash, prosecutors said.

His blood alcohol level was also .15, which is nearly double the legal limit of .08.

Granobles and her daughter were rushed to an area hospital but did not survive.

"In pleading guilty, the defendant has taken responsibility for the vehicle collision that resulted in the tragic deaths of a mother and her young daughter," Queens D.A. Melinda Katz said in a statement Thursday.

"No amount of accountability will heal the pain felt by this loss, but I hope today's plea and subsequent sentencing will provide a measure of closure to the loved ones of both victims," Katz said.
