Man charged with felony assault for punching 9-year-old girl in face at Grand Central Terminal

NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — Police nabbed a man on Saturday night who is accused of punching a 9-year-old girl in the face at Grand Central Terminal that morning, and charged him with felony assault.

The MTAPD placed Jean Carlos Zarzuela, 30, in custody at about 10:20 p.m. and charged him with assault 2 (felony assault), with additional charges pending.

Zarzuela approached a 9-year-old girl from the Bronx, who was standing with her mother in the Grand Central Terminal dining concourse, at 11:49 a.m. and allegedly punched her in the face without warning.

Police said that the girl suffered from pain and dizziness. Nearby MTAPD officers rendered aid to the child, who was transported to NYU Langone - Tisch Hospital for treatment.

The MTAPD released a description of Zarzuela, who they said was known to the department, about three hours before his arrest.
