NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A man punched a 17-year-old girl in the face before stealing her wallet and school ID in Brooklyn, the NYPD said Wednesday.

The girl was walking near the corner of Lafayette and Bedford avenues in Bedford-Stuyvesant around 2:50 p.m. on March 22 when a man she didn't know approached her and demanded her wallet, police said.

The man then punched the girl in the face and stole her wallet, which contained $100 in cash, her school ID card and two MetroCards, the NYPD said.

He fled north on Nostrand Avenue, police said.

The attack didn't leave the girl with any serious physical injuries, the NYPD said.

Police are now searching for her attacker, an approximately 50-year-old, 5-foot-10, 130-to 140-pound man who was last seen wearing a black jacket, blue jeans and dark sneakers.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-TIPS.
