NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Police are searching for the man behind a sex attack on a woman at an Upper East Side subway station this week.
The attack began as the 31-year-old woman was walking up a staircase at the 96th Street station on Lexington Avenue around 5:30 a.m. Monday.
Police said the man sexually abused her as she was headed up the staircase.
That led to a physical confrontation in which the man grabbed the woman by the hair, punched her in the face and threw her to the ground, police said.
The condition of the woman wasn't immediately known.
The man fled after the attack; the NYPD released a surveillance image of the suspect on Thursday.
