NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Police are searching for a man who sucker punched a woman into unconsciousness during a protest at Columbia University this week over China’s severe COVID-19 restrictions.

The NYPD released a surveillance image Friday of the suspect in Monday evening’s attack during the protest outside Low Memorial Library.

The assault came as a wave of protests have swept China this week over the government’s “zero COVID” policy.

Demonstrations have been held in New York and elsewhere to support the rare display of public dissent in China, but police said the demonstration at Columbia turned violent when the 21-year-old woman was pummeled by a counter-protester.

The woman was taking part in the protest at the center of campus just before 8 p.m. when a man came up and repeatedly punched her in the head, police said.

The vicious blows caused the woman to lose consciousness, according to police.

She was transported in stable condition to Mount Sinai Morningside.

The man fled the scene after the attack.
